The new “Star of the North” maternity home in Duluth, Minnesota held a ribbon-cutting opening ceremony yesterday. Its program director said their goal is to provide shelter, education, and support to women who are homeless and pregnant, or have young children. The facility has four bedrooms for mothers in need, who are invited to stay 12-18 months. Program director Nancy Namaste said they hope to teach the mothers life skills such as money management, how to care for their baby, and planning for life after their stay at the facility. Women are referred to the program through local agencies.
