Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey coach Tony Granato says his brother’s illness was a “scary situation” for the family. Granato returned to practice Tuesday after taking more than a week to stay with his brother while Don Granato fought through a severe case of pneumonia. Don Granato played for the Badgers from 1987-to-91 and coached with his brother during the 2016-17 season. He is now an assistant coach for the N-H-L Buffalo Sabres. Associate head coach Mark Osiecki ran the team’s first official day of practice Saturday and an intra-squad scrimmage Sunday.
