Dozens of employees say they were blindsided by the abrupt closing of Hand-H Group Holdings in Madison last week. Company president Bill Howe sent an email Tuesday, January 14th, saying the company had suspended operations, effective immediately. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says it hadn’t received a prior notice of the layoffs as required under the state’s mass layoff law. There are some exceptions, so it’s possible the law wasn’t violated. The Wisconsin Equal Rights Division is investigating a formal complaint about the shutdown.
