Three people were rescued from the Chippewa River on Sunday, after they were separated from their kayaks. The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to the call near the UW-Eau Claire foot bridge just after 3pm. Two people from the group made it to shore. Fire officials said the third person was in the fast moving water, clinging to an overhanging branch. Eau Claire fire officials launched a boat from Hobbs boat landing and rescued the person in the water. Another boat was launched to retrieve the two loose kayaks and the group’s personal belongings.
