Two Vehicle Crash South Of Amery Sends Several To Hospital

A Minnesota man was arrested after a crash south of Amery Saturday afternoon, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence with a child under the age of 16 in the car. The Wisconsin State Patrol said George Sleva, age 26 of Taylors Falls, Minnesota, was headed east and slid through a stop sign on 35th Avenue and Highway 46, south of Amery. Sleva’s vehicle collided with one driven by Judy Schwartzbauer, age 52 of Amery, who was headed north on State Highway 46. Officials said Sleva had an odor of an intoxicant on his breath. After a field sobriety test, he was arrested for OWI, his second offense, with a minor in the vehicle.

According to the State Patrol, Sleva had two people in his vehicle: Melissa Riehle, age 36 of Eau Claire and another passenger who was 15 years old.

They said Riehle was hurt in the crash. She treated at Amery Hospital and is expected to recover.
