Bond Set For Chippewa Falls Man Accused Of Killing Girl Scouts

Colten Treu, age 21, the man accused of running off the road and striking a group of Girl Scouts in Lake Hallie, was in court Monday morning where his bond was set at $250,000.  Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell said Treu was huffing an air duster around the time of the crash.  A passenger in Treu’s vehicle noticed he did not appear coherent and tried to take control of the wheel from Treu.  They fought over the wheel which is when the truck crossed the center line and went into the ditch killing four.  After hitting the Girl Scouts, Treu went back to his residence and pulled his truck into the garage to hide the vehicle. He then went to a party with friends.  Treu will be back in court for an initial appearance today.  Treu is ordered not to possess illegal drugs, or drug paraphernalia.  He cannot be in possession of any huffing devices and is not allowed to drive.
